The cylinder head cover, also known as the valve cover, sits directly on the cylinder head and fulfills a central function in the engine. It reliably protects the valves, valve train and camshafts from external influences. At the same time, the cylinder head cover prevents engine oil from escaping and protects both the components and the oil from dirt, dust and contamination.

In engines with timing chains or timing belts, the cylinder head cover also shields the chain drive. Most of our cylinder head covers are equipped with integrated ventilation systems that regulate the pressure in the crankcase and safely remove excess gases. In addition, other components such as camshaft sensors can be integrated directly into the valve cover.

The cylinder head cover therefore makes a decisive contribution to clean, reliable and long-lasting engine operation and is an essential component of modern engine technology.

Replacing the cylinder head cover

Avoid damage at an early stage

The cylinder head cover (also known as the valve cover) seals the cylinder head and ensures the safe return of engine oil. Modern cylinder head covers often integrate the Crankcase Ventilation, sensors and ignition coils. In the event of visible damage, defects in the Crankcase Ventilation or in the frame of major engine repairs, we recommend replacing the entire cylinder head cover instead of just replacing the gasket.

Typical symptoms of a defective cylinder head cover:

Oil loss due to leaking gaskets, cracks or warped material
Uneven engine running and loss of power due to incorrect air flow
Whistling or hissing noises due to defective Crankcase Ventilation
Error codes and warning lights due to deviating pressure or air values

Frequent causes:

Aged valve cover gasket that becomes brittle and leaks oil
