Efficient filtration for modern agriculture

Hengst presents a wide range of filtration solutions for conventional and alternative drives, mobile hydraulics and high-quality aftermarket products at Agritechnica 2023.

Münster. Built for the highest demands: Agricultural machinery must function safely and trouble-free in daily use under adverse conditions. Reliable fluid management and modern filtration technology play a major role in protecting the engine and ensuring reliable operation. At Agritechnica 2023 in Hanover (Hall 17, Booth A25), Hengst will showcase its concentrated know-how and sustainable technologies. The filtration specialist and development partner of renowned manufacturers is represented at the world's leading trade fair with filtration solutions for the vehicle and engine industry, mobile hydraulics, future drive and mobility concepts, as well as with its broad aftermarket portfolio.

Blue.maxx – the high-performance fuel filter system also for alternative fuels

The company is showcasing the modular fuel filter system Blue.maxx for conventional combustion engines at Agritechnica. It ensures highly efficient water separation and can be optimally adapted to the respective application. In this way, the efficiency of the engine can be sustainably improved.

In the future, alternative fuels and their blends will also be increasingly used in the off-highway sector for environmental reasons. The consequences of the aging of biofuels and their higher water absorption capacity can lead to operating problems in this process.

Hengst has developed special test methods for optimum adaptation of the fuel filter system to alternative fuels. These are embedded in the entire process of developing advanced fuel filtration systems, creating the basic prerequisite for the reliability and longevity of modern engine filtration. One example of the products developed in this way is the innovative Blue.maxx fuel filter system. It consists of basic variants that are already available and standardized and that can be supplemented by special additional modules. An online configurator makes it easy to put together the right filter solution for the application in question. With innovations such as Blue.maxx, Hengst is creating the conditions for the global use of efficient and climate-friendly diesel engines with high availability, reliability and durability.

Sustainable filter solutions for future hydrogen drives

To support the use of hydrogen as a climate-friendly energy carrier, Hengst has developed a modular system of various filtration solutions for commercial vehicles and off-highway applications. This consists of ion exchangers and cathode air filters for fuel cells, as well as disc separators and active crankcase ventilation for hydrogen combustion engines, which ensure the service life, efficiency, performance and safety of the drive even under harsh operating conditions.

The coolant of a fuel cell is enriched with ions during operation.  These are caused by aging products of the coolant itself or by components in the cooling circuit. Effective filtration is therefore required for the safe operation of the fuel cell. The Blue.iox ion exchanger from Hengst offers particularly high protection with minimal maintenance. The unique design of the filter cartridge with axial filter flow and the special mixed bed resin system for cation and anion exchange ensure high filtration performance over the entire service interval.

Special requirements are also placed on filtration in the air circuit of a fuel cell. The intake air must be very effectively cleaned of particles from the outside air to ensure long service life and high performance. In addition, pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), ammonia (NH3) and sulfur oxides (SO2) can lead to unwanted deposits in the fuel cell and damage it. A specially developed cathode air filter system Blue.netic from Hengst with a multilayer structure reliably protects the fuel cell components from particles and harmful gases.

The requirements for filter systems for hydrogen engines are comparable to those for conventional gasoline or diesel engines. However, the increased introduction of water into the engine oil and the easy flammability of hydrogen must be considered as additional challenges. Blowby gases that enter the crankcase via the cylinders form an explosive mixture at concentrations above 3.5% by volume, which ignites on hot engine components. The active ventilation system developed by Hengst minimizes the hydrogen concentration in the crankcase and counteracts the risk of ignition.

Blue.on Heavy Duty – the environmentally friendly alternative to the spin-on filter

In the field of oil filtration, Hengst Filtration is presenting its sustainable Blue.on Heavy Duty filtration concept in a robust design. This is an alternative to the spin-on filter that enables tool-free replacement with 25 percent less weight and 90 percent less waste - ideal for making conventional drives even more sustainable.

Spin-on filters are widely used in agriculture, and the entire filter unit is replaced each time the filter is changed. Actually, only the filter element would need to be replaced. However, the housing with the other functions is disposed of along with it, generating millions of tons of waste annually and thus an enormous environmental impact. Recycling usually does not take place due to the large number of materials used.

Hengst's answer to this environmental impact is the sustainable Blue.on HD filter concept. It consists of three components: A lid made of high-strength plastic, a filter element and the valve adapter. The latter can be easily attached to the existing Spin-On interface. With tool-free replacement, only the used filter element is disposed of - the rest remains in the vehicle, which means 90 percent less waste!

In the adapter, the engine-proof filter bypass valve ensures constant filtration performance over the entire service life of the engine. Damage due to insufficient or even missing valves is thus excluded.

Whether original equipment or retrofit, the Blue.on HD is always a smart alternative for more sustainable filtration. The system can be adapted to the respective requirements with a variety of filter media. If desired, patent protection can also be integrated - this protects against counterfeiting and also secures the service business.

Powerful filtration for demanding mobile hydraulics applications

The complete filters and filter elements for industrial and mobile hydraulic applications ensure reliable operation under extreme conditions. Agritechnica offers the ideal opportunity to present the technologically sophisticated and constantly growing product range to the trade public.

In-line filters with the patented "Cyclone Effect" are a highlight in the hydraulics sector. They sustainably reduce operating costs while optimizing filtration performance. Heavy dirt particles are transported to the outside. Premature clogging of the filter element is prevented.

The newly developed pressure filter with front connections and machine-specific mounting concept offers particular ease of maintenance in boost circuits of closed hydraulic systems thanks to a mounting remote from the pump. The special "cross-flow" geometry ensures a low pressure difference and optimum flow conditions on the dirt side.

Hengst hydraulic filter elements with "PURE POWER" offer another sophisticated technology. With comparable separation efficiency and low differential pressure, they absorb up to 50% more particles. For charge exchange between oil and filter material, all filter elements are equipped with an electrically conductive fleece as standard.

Wide range for the aftermarket

As "The SMART Alternative", Hengst is also a sought-after partner in the independent aftermarket. With its proximity to customers and intelligent solutions, the company supports aftermarket dealers around the world. The wide product range in brand quality includes oil filters, fuel filters, air filters, cabin filters, transmission oil filters and customized special filters from hydraulic oil filters to centrifuge oil filters.

For many years, Hengst has been a renowned development partner and supplier in the agricultural and construction machinery sector. For example, the TCD 4.1 and 6.1 Agri in-line engines from Deutz are equipped with an oil filter module with heat exchanger and water pump from Hengst as standard. The engines are installed in the Deutz Agrotron series tractors and the Fendt Vario 500, 700 and 800 series, among others. The Hengst Energetic® E470H D28 filter insert is used as a standard service part.

In addition to the E470H D28, Hengst now offers the E470H01 D28. The decisive advantage is the service interval, which doubles to 1000 hours with the new product. This optimization is made possible thanks to a new high-performance medium with improved dust absorption capacity and higher chemical resistance.
