Hengst Filter: Solutions for the aftermarket at Automechanika

The company is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year: 60 years during which Hengst not only acquired a reputation as an innovative development partner of manufacturers, but also as a professional and reliable partner for dealers and repair shops.

Product highlights from the supplier of dealers and repair shops

Hengst SE, the Münster-based specialist for filtration, will present current product highlights for the aftermarket at Automechanika in Frankfurt/Main. The exhibit at Booth A71 in Hall 4.0 has been redesigned with an inviting layout that reflects the company’s open philosophy and includes a separate repair shop area. The company is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year: 60 years during which Hengst not only acquired a reputation as an innovative development partner of manufacturers, but also as a professional and reliable partner for dealers and repair shops. To intensify this spirit of partnership, Hengst continues to expand its logistics capacities. Oliver Nabrotzky, Group Vice President Aftermarket, comments: “We know that flexibility, speed and reliable delivery are factors of increasing importance in the aftermarket. That is why our distribution centers are close to the customers, to ensure fast and reliable delivery of Hengst filters when and where they are needed.”

OEM quality for the aftermarket

Recognized worldwide as a filtration specialist for the aftermarket, Hengst offers its partners a comprehensive filter spectrum ranging from oil and fuel filters to air and cabin air filters and special applications. The more than 2,600 products offered include solutions for virtually all manufacturers and engine types. Currently, the company is significantly expanding its range of off-highway products. Hengst also uses its OEM expertise in off-highway applications for a large number of major utility vehicle manufacturers. As a development partner and OEM supplier for a great many well-known automobile manufacturers, the company engineers and manufactures multi-functional filtration and fluid management systems of premium quality for passenger car, utility vehicle and off-highway applications. All filters engineered for the OEM market are adopted into the aftermarket product range with the identical design and construction. This is a fact that is greatly appreciated by qualified service dealers and well-organized repair shops, because with Hengst they can be assured of receiving filters of top-notch quality.

Successful development partnership

A recent example of the company’s development partnership with well-known manufacturers is the innovative, custom-tailored oil/coolant module developed and manufactured by Hengst for the new Mercedes Benz 3.0 liter six-cylinder gas engine (internal code M 256). In addition to the compact design, the outstanding features of the new oil/coolant module include the integration of an oil/water heat exchanger and split oil pressure regulation achieved by means of a hydraulic valve and a control piston.

Awards: Blue.on

At Automechanika Hengst will present its innovative oil filter concept Blue.on, which recently received the Partslife Environmental Award. The award is given for innovative and exemplary measures for protecting the environment. Around 800 million vehicles are currently equipped with a screw-on oil filter. Conventional, self-contained systems necessitate the exchange and disposal of the entire unit. This causes substantial environmental impact and waste. The Blue.on filter concept from Hengst offers a sustainable alternative. It is designed as a lifetime component consisting of a lid and a base with an integrated filter bypass and check valve as well as an exchangeable filter cartridge. Rather than exchanging the entire filter unit, only the cartridge needs to be replaced. The old cartridge can be incinerated without harm to the environment. Blue.on is part of an ongoing strategy for waste prevention at Hengst, which started with the development of the Energetic filter concept. The system, which has the Energetic replaceable filter as the core element, is capable of eliminating up to 90 % of the waste that occurs with conventional screw-on oil filters; this is possible due to the use of lifetime components that remain on the engine block when the filter is changed. In 1993, Hengst had already developed the Energetic system and made it ready for production, as a trailblazer for an entire industry. Meanwhile, Hengst offers the sixth generation of the system.

Blue.care: Clean air in the interior

At Automechanika Hengst will also present Blue.care, a high-performance cabin air filter of the latest generation. The system reliably filters pollen, particulate matter, mold and spores, as well as odors and bacteria from the air. This is important not only for the health and well-being of the driver and passengers, but also actively protects the environment. The Blue.care cabin air filter consists of five different layers. The first layer consists of an electrostatic medium with a pre-filtration function to trap coarse particles. The second layer, a non-woven filter, increases dust retention, and the third, an activated carbon layer, separates vapors, odors and toxic gases such as ozone, nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide. Number four, the meltblown medium, traps fine dust and micro-particles with a diameter smaller than 2.5 µm. The fifth, a bio-functional layer, has an anti-microbial effect. Blue.care cabin air filters are available for the standard models of all major automotive manufacturers.

Expansion of worldwide production capacities

To guarantee fast delivery of the high-performance filters to automotive customers, Hengst opened its newest production plant in Gogolin, Poland in April. The new location specializes in the production of fluid management modules. Cutting-edge production systems on a production floor spanning 10,000 m² guarantee the premium product quality customers have come to expect from Hengst. With the new site, Hengst now has 16 plants on four continents.
