BIBO filter system (Bag-In Bag-Out) for HEPA and containment applications - MultiSafe
For applications with high demands on tightness and operational safety.
When the filter change itself becomes a safety risk, a structured containment concept is required. The MultiSafe BIBO filter system from Hengst enables a closed, technically secured filter change in industrial air filtration and exhaust air systems - for applications with high demands on tightness and operational safety.
System advantages of the MultiSafe BIBO filter
The MultiSafe system has been developed as a holistic containment solution for safety-critical air filtration. Instead of an isolated housing solution, Hengst offers a technically coordinated filter system in which the design, changeover procedure and testability are systematically aligned with each other.
Tested tightness and containment safety
The gas-tight welded design supports stable operation even under demanding industrial conditions. The integrated tightness concept is anchored in the design and designed for long-term operational safety.
Contamination-free filter change
The Bag-In Bag-Out process enables a closed exchange of HEPA and high-performance filters under defined containment conditions. This makes the maintenance process controllable and reproducible.
Modular system concept
MultiSafe has a modular design and can be adapted to different filter stages and project-specific requirements. The structured system architecture supports consistent integration into industrial ventilation and exhaust air systems.
Technically verifiable filter sealing
The defined filter seat enables verifiable sealing of the HEPA element. This means that quality assurance is not left to chance, but is supported by the design.
MultiSafe
The BIBO filter system from Hengst for industrial air filtrationMultiSafe is designed as a modular BIBO filter system that combines housing design, replacement procedure and testability in a coordinated concept.
The gas-tight, welded construction forms the basis for reliable containment. A defined sealing seat enables a technically verifiable filter seal. The integrated bag-in bag-out process ensures a safe filter change without releasing contaminated particles.
The system is designed for industrial air filtration and exhaust air applications where high demands are placed on tightness and operational safety, especially in applications with HEPA filtration and increased containment requirements.

1 Type C housing module
The MultiSafe C modules are suitable for the installation of various filter elements of size 610 x 610 x 78 mm.
2 Type B housing module
The MultiSafe B modules are suitable for the installation of various filter elements of size 610 x 610 x 292 mm.
3 Seal seat test connection
To verify the perfect seal between the untreated and clean gas side, a tightness tester can be connected, e.g. for a test in accordance with DIN 1946-4. This test can also be carried out during operation.
4 Maintenance table
To change the heavy Filter Elements safely using the Bag-In-Bag-Out (BIBO) technology, a maintenance table can be placed in front of the filter inserts. The work can then be carried out conveniently on the table.
5 modules for raw gas-side particle feeding and scanning device for clean gas-side particle measurement
Test aerosols such as oil mist can be applied upstream of the filters via a lance. With the help of the scanning device
particles can be detected over the entire outflow surface on the clean gas side and fed to a measuring device.
6 Filter clamping device
The stable filter clamping device allows a high preload and ensures the tight fit of the Filter Elements at all times.
at all times.
7 BIBO maintenance board
The BIBO maintenance board allows a filter to be changed with the aid of protective bags without the maintenance
maintenance personnel coming into direct contact with the contaminated interior of the system.
8 Pressure relief nozzle
To compensate for pressure differences between the inside of the filter device and the environment when changing the filter
the environment, for example after sealing off the device via flaps, a pressure relief nozzle is used. In this way, the protective bag is not stressed by pressure differences and may not be damaged or leak.
9 Stopcock and inline filter
As the differential pressure measurement lines lead into the contaminated area, they can be sealed off using the optional shut-off valves and fitted with inline filters.

Safe filter change under containment conditions
In safety-critical applications, it is not just filtration that is crucial, but the entire maintenance process. The MultiSafe system was developed to enable filter replacement under defined containment conditions.
In the bag-in bag-out process, the loaded Filter Elements remain completely enclosed during the entire change process. The changing process is secured by design and supports the controlled handling of contaminated filters - even in sensitive industrial, clean room or nuclear environments.
An integrated pressure relief concept helps to stabilize the protective bag during the changing process and additionally safeguards the process.

Integration and design of BIBO filters
The integration of a BIBO filter systems requires an application-specific evaluation of the technical and safety-relevant framework conditions. Decisive factors include air volume flow, differential pressure, filter class and the type of separated substances.
The MultiSafe system has a modular design and enables structured integration into industrial ventilation and exhaust air systems - provided that the structural and safety requirements are taken into account. The design is project-specific and is based on the respective containment requirements.
In addition to mechanical integration, integration into the safety and maintenance concept is also crucial. The bag-in bag-out process and the defined seal seat support a controlled and reproducible filter change within clearly defined processes.
Hengst supports the design of the MultiSafe BIBO filter systems with technical expertise, taking into account industry-specific requirements and operational conditions.

FAQ about BIBO filters
What is a bag-in-bag-out filter?
A bag-in-bag-out filter (BIBO) is a filter system with a closed replacement process. When the filter is changed, the contaminated Filter Elements remain enclosed in a protective bag so that no contaminated particles are released into the environment.
BIBO systems are used in applications where the maintenance process must take place under defined containment conditions.
Can the MultiSafe system be used in potentially explosive atmospheres?
Special designs are possible depending on the application. The specific suitability for potentially explosive atmospheres must be checked in the frame of the project-specific planning.
What are the maintenance requirements for BIBO filter systems?
The bag-in bag-out process supports a structured and reproducible filter change. Sufficient access, suitable safety measures and trained personnel are required for maintenance work.
The specific organization of the maintenance process depends on the operational conditions.
Can an existing open filter housing be replaced by a BIBO system?
Retrofitting is generally possible, provided that the structural and ventilation requirements are met. Before integration, a technical assessment is required to check space requirements, interfaces and containment requirements.
What role does the leak test play in operation?
The design of the MultiSafe system enables a technically reproducible inspection of the filter seat. Depending on the application, test procedures can be provided to check the sealing and thus the functional reliability of the system.
Can the MultiSafe system map multi-stage filtration concepts?
Yes, the BIBO filter system can be designed in such a way that several filter stages are integrated within a coordinated concept. This can include pre-filters, HEPA or other high-performance filters. The specific configuration depends on the requirements for particle retention and containment.
