Suction pipe modules

Suction pipe modules

OE quality that professionals rely on - for reliable performance.

The intake manifold module, also known as the intake manifold bridge or intake manifold, is a central component in the engine's air supply system. It distributes the combustion air cleaned by the air filter evenly to the individual cylinders, ensuring a stable and controlled air supply. This precise air distribution is crucial for efficient and clean combustion and has a significant influence on engine performance, fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

To ensure reliable operation, the intake manifold module consists of a complex system of tubular ducts and integrated functional components. Modern intake manifold modules often have swirl flaps that adapt the air flow to different load and speed ranges and enable optimum turbulence of the intake air. In addition, sensors, actuators for throttle valve control and integrated cooling water ducts can be included to ensure constant temperature control and precise measured values for engine management.

Another important aspect is the interaction with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). This feeds some of the low-oxygen exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber in order to regulate the combustion process and reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. The intake manifold module thus forms a central connection point between the intake air, throttle valve and EGR system and makes a decisive contribution to low-emission, consumption-optimized and long-lasting engine function.

Benefits

Suction pipe modules – Your customer benefits at a glance:
  • Complete and ready to install: Including installation material and pre-assembled gaskets - reduces complaints and saves workshop time.

  • Technology leader in injection molding: own worldwide production with plastic injection molding systems and winner of the ENGEL Award for plastics technology.

  • Tested technology from Germany: We test for tightness, temperature resistance, material service life and accuracy of fit on over 45 of our own test benches.

  • Quality that counts: The intake manifold module usually only needs to be replaced once or twice in a vehicle's lifetime - if it is replaced, then only with our original equipment quality.

  • Avoid consequential damage: Complete replacement instead of just gasket replacement prevents leaks, material breakage and repeat visits to the workshop.

  • Broad vehicle coverage: More than 1,000 European vehicle models are covered by our range.

  • High availability: Our 98 percent adherence to delivery dates ensures smooth day-to-day business.

  • Efficiency in the parts business: Our complete solution with just one article number ensures fast and uncomplicated ordering and order processes.

Intake manifold module - function and defects

Our colleague Kai Wiethölter explains our new product in our new Hengst.garage video:

Replacing the intake manifold module

A defective intake manifold module (intake manifold/intake manifold) impairs the engine's air supply and has a direct effect on engine running, performance and fuel consumption. Timely replacement helps to avoid consequential damage and high repair costs.

Typical symptoms of a defective intake manifold module:

  • Uneven engine running and loss of power due to incorrect air flow
  • Increased fuel consumption due to an incorrect air/fuel mixture
  • Engine indicator light active, triggered by sensor errors, flap faults or leaks
  • Hissing or whistling noises due to vacuum loss in the intake system

Frequent causes:

  • Coked or defective swirl flaps that no longer control the air flow correctly
  • Soot deposits from exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), which lead to blockages in the intake manifold
  • Faulty servomotors or sensors that impair the air flow
  • Leaking or porous gaskets that allow false air into the intake tract
  • Cracks or material fatigue in the plastic housing due to heat, vibrations or thermal stress

Possible consequences if ignored:

A defective intake manifold module can lead to uncontrolled combustion, increased emissions, overloading of actuators and sensors as well as damage to valves and pistons due to misfiring. In the worst case, there is a risk of serious engine damage or failure to pass the emissions test.
