The cement production creates large volumes of dust, which can overwhelm filtration systems if are not designed to handle such high dust loads. This can lower efficiency and increase emissions - which was the case with our client in Portugal.
Challenges
Lower output than expected, due to the undersized dust collector.
High emission levels - 22 mg/Nm³/h.
Poor filter quality, causing rapid deterioration.
Unscheduled maintenance and downtime.
Replacement of filters with pleated bag filters
The filter system has been upgraded with 240 Top Loader pleated bag filters, each equipped with 6m² of 100% synthetic media with an ePTFE membrane.
Emission reduction and longer filter lifetime
Together with the customer, we have implemented the new pleated bags and compared the performance of the system over time.

Hengst Filters deliver a gain in productivity, emission reduction and longer filter lifetime
With the upgrade to pleated abgs with 100% synthetic media with an ePTFE membrane, the filtration surface could be maximized and increased by 600%. This results into productivity gains and significant emission reductions.
10% increase in productivity
The output of the cement mill increased from 27 tons per hour to 30 tons per hour. This equals a 10% increase in productivity.
95% decrease in emissions
The emission level was lowered from 22 mg/Nm³/h to 1 mg/Nm³/h, which means a 95% decrease in emissions.
Longer filter lifetime and efficient filter cleaning
The filter construction eliminated the issue of the high-pressure drop from 6 to 3 bar. The ePTFE membrane offers efficient dust cleaning, thereby requiring less air for cleaning and, ultimately, less energy consumption.
